Anyone in the police research arena knows that the success of any type of Homeland Security preparedness on the state and local levels depends on the amount of funding they receive from the Federal Government. State governments do not even have the full funding for first responders. Old and outdated equipment and not enough emergency technicians are a result of the states not having money.
So why is Homeland Security cutting funding to States and local jurisdictions? As a resident of Prince George’s County I am outraged that funding was not giving to update our radio system. Radio communication is crucial for first responders and the lack of funding given to the county leads me to believe that they are not concerned about the county. Now the county will have to find funding from another source. I am sure the state of Maryland will not assist because they will claim they don’t have the money as well. What message is our government sending? They are sending that message that if a terrorist attack reaches American soil, the people will be mostly responsible for their safety..
