As a graduate of an HBCU, I will admit that we have our fair share of problems, but I will attest that the quality of education is excellent. This sister featured in this article claims that she choose UVA over Hampton because she didn’t like the way the buildings at Hampton looked. Did you check out the professors and their credentials? I though that was the main purpose of attending college was for academic development. Maybe she had other reasons the Post didn’t identify but that this makes her look really ignorant. I love my HBCU Bowie State University, and would not trade my experience there for the world.
I think the biggest problem facing HBCUs is the lack of support from its alumni. We fail to give back after we graduate. We don’t lobby state government for additional funding like we should. I too am guilty of not doing all that I could, but it I never too late to change that.
