5 Alabama Police Officers fired

This story is very disturbing (5 Alabama police officers fired over beating caught on camera). This happened in 2008. I agree with the Mayor’s comments that the police officers did a great job up until that last minute when the suspect was ejected from the car. They beat an unconscious man for 4 seconds. And the officer to throw the frist punch, was a black man.

I know tensions were high because it was a 50 mile chase, and the suspect did almost run over a police officer, but officers are trained to keep their cool during these types of incidents. This is a clear case of police brutality; though it lasted only seconds, it was wrong.

  1. I am sorry, but i have no problem with what the officers did. 1) the idiot involved was a criminal, 2) he he showed no regard for any of the civilians in his path, 3) he blatantly tried to kill a police officer, 4) he got exactly what he deserved, we spend way too much time in this country defending punks and criminals.
Bottom line, I have never had a problem with a police officer – you know why? I am not a criminal, I am a minority but I have never been beaten, harassed, or bothered by a cop. We expect too much of police, they are human, they put their lives on the line every day and they are expected to just “turn it off” as soon as the pursuit is over, this is unrealistic.
As a proud veteran, if anyone had endangered my teammates the way this petty thug did – he would have gotten the exact same treatment from me or worse (I was a team sniper).

  2. Well in this country law enforcement must abide with the law. And even this guy was an idiot, no one is above the law. And you should be thankful that you have never had a problem with a police officer before. Back in undergrad experienced 2 minor incidents with our campus police; and I am not a criminal. You don’t have to be a criminal to have a run in with the police.

  3. Well, when cops beat innocent civilians then they should lose their jobs. Problem is I have never heard of such an incident.
This country has a crime problem because we spend too much energy on defending criminals and making sure they are treated well. I don’t care how they are treated, by definition a criminal is unfit to live in regular society.

  4. If the suspect is unconscious, there’s no need to use that level of force. I understand the urge, but those police cameras record everything. The helicopters above and the news trucks below record everything.

  5. i ♥ cops!

  6. @Native Son,

Did you see the story on how an emt was choked by a cop just a few days ago? i tell ya, i just luv cops!

  7. It’s no doubt that we need police officers however we want officers that are willing to obey and abide by the laws also. Officers need to take a crash course in race relations 101 and furthermore learn to treat people equally, regardless of the color of their skin. Many situations are handled differently where race is a factor. Many of you won’t understand until something drastic happens to you or someone you love dearly. Here we go again with this stupitd mentality, “it’s not happening to my son, daughter, or child , so it not my concern”. That has long been our motto for too l-o-n-g. If it doesn’t affect me, I’m not in it. When cops are unlawful in their duties, they too should be subjected to thesame standards as civilians. THEY SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN SPECIAL PRIVILEGES. THEY ARE NOT ABOVE THE LAW. We want the law to be found doing the right thing. Of course, they put their lives on the line, but then they knew this when they took the jjojb, which is a job of risk, gambles., and chances.I’m not anti cop however I am ANTI-CORRUPT COP AND POLICE DEPT.
