Look and Listen with a Third Eye and Ear

This past month has been difficult for the GOP.  Day after day a new scandal has been uncovered.  The most recent scandal of course is Congressman Mark Foley’s behavior toward congressional pages.  To make matters worse,  GOP leaders initially tried to downplay their knowledge of his actions, but that soon fell apart after members of their own party have come forward to admit that they had knowledge of his behavior as early as 2003 (Ex-Aide to Foley Cites ’03 Warnings: by Jonathan Weisman and Charles Babington).

I predict the Speaker of the House will resign soon.  And though I am not surprised, I am disgusted at the neo-con talk show hosts who have attempted to shift blame on the congressional pages themselves.  They have also accused Democrats of using this to their advantage.  I have heard so many ignorant comments made by these guys this week that I can’t even keep track.  But the good folks at Media Matters do a great job at tracking the opinions and comments of these idiots.

As the Foley case seems to be taking up most the front pages of all the News Papers, there are a few other things that should be getting the same amount of attention; One is the huge increase in deaths of American troops in the Middle East and the Bush Administration’s attempt to lie to the American people on just how bad the violence in the Middle East.  This administration has been lying to us since the beginning.  In Bob Woodward’s book State of Denial , Bob reveals that the Bush Administration’s corrupt dealings concerning the events that lead up to and after our invasion of Iraq.

According to the book, Former CIA director George Tenet had warned of an imminent threat from al-Qaeda in a July 2001 meeting with Condoleezza Rice (Tenet Recalled Warning Rice: by Dan Eggen and Robin Wright)

Condi Rice has responded by saying that she doesn’t recall being warned by Tenet.  This is a complete lie because Woodward has the document and tenet testified to the 9-11 Commission that he had this meeting.  Usually when a politician responds with “I don’t recall” it really means they were aware, but for other reason didn’t think it was important to pay attention to it.

Marine General James L. Jones was quoted in Woodward’s book saying: that the war in Iraq is a “debacle” and that “The Joint Chiefs have been systematically emasculated by Rumsfeld.” (U.S. European Commander Confirms Quotes in Book: by Thomas E. Ricks)

Since the media has been focusing on the Foley Scandal this past week, the violence in the Middle East is off the hook.  Iraqi troops and citizens are dying in great numbers because of suicide bombers (11 U.S. Troops, 52 Iraqis Killed) (Attacks in Baghdad Kill 13 U.S. Soldiers in 3 Days)

And while all of this going on, Condi Rice is appealing to the Palestinians to immediately end a new wave of internal fighting that has killed a dozen people and has further threatened to unravel the troubled Palestinian Authority.

What she fails to realize is that the killing will no stop until we withdraw troops form the Middle East.  We have invited ourselves into a conflict that has been in existence for a very long time.  The people in the Middle East are battling for religious purposes.

And to add insult to injury, our President has been traveling the country trying to promote the need for our troops to remain in Iraq by saying that this traumatic period in Iraq will be seen as “just a comma” in the history books.

Of course his people are spinning as not being offensive.  But nothing this man say surprises me.  If his staff were wise, they would right all of his speeches and not allow him to free style.  He does not know what to say and is not a good presenter or speaker.

We are in a critical situation in our country.  The Bush Administration made choices and decisions which have caused in uproar across the map domestic and foreign.  So while the media for the past week has focused on the Foley scandal, it is important that the people link all the pieces of the puzzle.  And what you will find a picture of is an Administration and party who used the platform of having good, wholesome American family values to woo the weak minded, and they were quite successful.  Now it is up to both those who were fooled and those we knew that from the beginning what would happen if Bush was elected President, to vote this party out of leadership of our government.  It is time for a change and start cleaning up the monumental mess that this Administration has caused.
