Is this 1957 or 2007?

SHARPTON, JACKSON RECEIVE DEATH THREATS: Civil rights leaders feel heat after pushing for Don Imus to be fired.

For those ignorant people who are sending bomb and death threats to Jackson and Sharpton, gives further evidence that racism still exist in this country.  Over the past week or so I have read many blog sites full of hate and racist rhetoric.  Even the Rutger ladies are getting threats.

And to think that even some black people like Jason Whitlock, added fuel to the fire by writing an op-ed piece calling Sharpton and Jackson, terrorist and opportunist trying to get extra media time; when in fact it is his himself who wrote that article to get attention.  All of his bashing on Sharpton, Jackson and coach Vivian paid off because he has been on at least 5 shows and landed a spot on Oprah today.

What some (not all) white people fail to realize is that it was not Sharpton and Jackson who was the cause of Imus getting fired, it was the grass root organizations and citizens (black and white) who used the power of the pen and the internet and wrote the network and advertisers and we hit the soft spot of America; their wallets!!!  But no person, no matter how much you dislike them, deserves to have their lives threatened.

mark bey: Yo Native, the Whitlock guy is right about those characters sharpton and jessie they are oppurtunist. But as you said so is the whitlock character, probably the main issue I have with him is that he attacked Al and Jeese in public and was wrong in some of the things he said. who is Jason whitlock to question who coach stringer dealth with the imus situation.

  2. sup brother Bey:

I know a lot of people don’t care much for sharpton and Jackson, but I think they get a bad rap. I remember Al Sharpton clarified that when things like this happens, he only comes when he is called. But if you listen to the media and conservatives, people will think that sharpton is like an injury lawyer waiting in the bushe for something to happen which is not true.

Do I agree with everything they do, no. But one thing that I can say is that they take a stand even when others don’t. Some people say that Sharpton and Jackson are past their prime and need to go away. I disagree; Prime example: look at the neo-cons, half of President Bush’s advisors and chief policy makers are from the Regan and Daddy Bush presidency. Look at Newt Gingrich, Pat Robertson. All of these idiots have said the most ignorant things throughout the history of their careers and yet we never hear white people calling for them to step down and go away, no matter what they say or do.

it is true that Jackson and Sharpton are no the moral authority or voice for black people; but they have stood up when a lot of us just stood by and watched and the commented after the fact. And let’s face it, the media always likes to go to them no matter what because they are easy targets. With the Imus case, the first group to call attnetion to this was the National Association of Black Journalist, Ebony and Jet Magainze then Sharpton and Jackson. but who did the media go to? sharpton and jackson.

mark bey: Yo Native my dislike of them has nothing to do with what the white media or people say. The word preachers commands with it ( even young and new preachers) these guys do not carry themselves on that spiritual level in my oppinion. Im not saying that preachers cant do the protest or civil rights things. But I am saying that preachers need to conduct themselves morally period if they cant do that they need to sit down.

Also I agree with a lot of what Sharpton and Jesse Jackson say, hell I even leaned towards Al when I saw him and Whitlock debating earlier today. But those guys have a long history of exploiting our victimhood into income for themselves. Of course some only comes along with what they do but those cats got slime on them. Especially Jesus, he has a track record of shaking down companies for his personal benifit while supposedly protesting on our behalf.

  4. This is what I meant to say

mark bey: Yo Native my dislike of them has nothing to do with what the white media or people say. The word preachers commands with it ( even for young and new preachers) a high level of respect, these guys do not carry themselves on that spiritual level in my oppinion. Im not saying that preachers cant do the protest or civil rights things. But I am saying that preachers need to conduct themselves morally period if they cant do that they need to sit down and not call themselves preachers.

  5. Brother Bey:

Hey man I feel you on that . They have strayed as ministers.

  6. Yo Native please dont get me wrong I respect Al and Jesse although I am extremely dissapointed with Jesse over that love child incident.

To be honest Al went up against Jason Whitlock and handled himself extremely well. To be honest Sharpton is a thoughtful and intelligent cat and he does a good job on certain issues of concern to black people.

Also I woudl support Al if he decides to go after the rappers to make them act more responsibly with thier lyrics. Having said that if these guys are going to act like secular people then they need to stop calling themselves preachers. Enough with the hypocrisy, you can agitate against the system without bieng a preacher. If you are going to insinuate that god has touched/annointed you then they need to carry themselves on that level, the slick and slimyness must go. Peace brotha Native.

P.S I love Al Sharpton show.

  7. Mark:

    I agree
