Truant arrests plummet in police pilot program

This some good news. It is good to hear that at least one policy Prince George’s County has implemented is working.  According to the Gazette,  A four-month Prince George’s County police pilot program netted 948 truant students in neighborhoods around county schools, with truancy-related arrest rates falling dramatically from 2006 numbers.

I think there is still one thing missing from the plan, holding parents accountable.  I am not talking about punishing parents, but making them take mandatory parenting classes and seek counsleing with their child.

There is a serious disconnect with a lot of todays parents; some have legitimate reasons and others don’t.  Some may think that it is soley up to parents to raise their kids, but when you have 39% of black students who dropped out of high school in Prince George’s County drastic measures need to be taken.
