  1. Wow. For someone who thinks that black people are lazy and uneducated, you are spending a lot of time on my blog page. Reparations? Who said anything about reparations? I want to once again ask you if you know how to read? This issue in Jena has nothing to do with reparations or people being lazy. please continue to read and make ignroant comments to my blog because you exhibit a perfect example of some people in this country who don’t have a clue. Keep up the good work

  2. Hi…

Earlier this year our radio show ‘The People Speak’ took an interest in a case about a 13 year old (at time of incident) African American high school student named Shaquanda Cotton of Paris, Texas. Shaquanda was convicted of pushing and injuring a teacher’s aid and sentenced up to 7 years in the Brownwood Juvenille Detention Faciilty. Understand that only a few decades ago, it was a ritual weekly event to take Black men and whip, burn and hang them on the Paris fairgrounds while thousands of white folk sat around watching, eating picnic lunches. This is a smal town much like Jena where segregation still exists, and in their courtroom, a sign hangs over a functioning public bathroom “Whites Only” – they say as a historic reminder of how far they have come.

Through a massive internet generated campaign – a thousands of people wrote letters, phone called, FAXed and emailed the Texas state capitol. They told me “We’ve never seen anything like this. so overwhelmed were they with outraged letters from people as far away as Australia and the UK. Texas Representative Harold Dutton was among those in Texas who helped secure the release of Shaquanda.

We had Shaquanda on our radio after her release along with her mother, assisting lawyer, campaign coordinator and even Representative Dutton. Shaquanda became the poster child for the unjust treatment of children in the Texas juvenille detention system and it sparked a statewide investigation into abuses, scandals, and unjust sentencing and incarceration of literally thousands of Texas youths some of whom have already been released. Shaquanda is in September’s Seventeen Magazine and will be appearing on the Montel Williams show at the end of September.

Yesterday, I was informed that Congressman John Conyers will be conducting hearings concerning the Jena 6 and I can see that with help from people such as him, with the continuing public pressure and outspokeness of good people in this country that another victory for civil rights shall be at hand and I hope to be a part of it through bringing national media attention from tv, radio, print to this case.

    Free the Jena 6!

    Peace

  3. Black people are lazy and won’t work if given the chance that’s why Mexicans have no trouble finding a job. Most blacks I have met think the government owes them a living.

  4. I have never thought to highly of blacks but any fool can see that the DA Walters is a racist bigot. After seeing pictures of the six boys anyone can plainly see they are not your typical city black drug addicts. They are only guilty of fighting. Most kids their age has to fight once in a while to prove his manhood especially if pushed to it. I believe the only sentence they deserve is having to spend no more than a day or two in jail.

The whole legal system in Louisiana is corrupt and bias against blacks. The prison system there is very hard on anyone going to jail.

  5. Morris Bently:

“You have never thought to highly of blacks”

    Why not?

  6. Morris needs to meet more Americans that are Black. Most Black people I know even those who have prominent or high paying jobs have additional jobs. Black people have worked very hard. In fact we have oftern worked jobs that many have thought was beneath them. If I was to follow your “Ill” logic then that would mean white people are lazy. When the truth is no-one really wants to work harder than they have to to get their piece of the American dream. Mexican is not a race.

While you may have thought you were saying something positive the fact that you made a generalization of the entire black race shows that you have a lot to learn about people in general. Get real and Get out and meet people. I have lived around the world and around the United States. By limiting your experiences you are limiting your knowledge.

A school fight means suspension or explusion if the person is guilty. Also the punishment should be appropriately and fairly handled. In this case it obviously is not or a lot more people in American would be in jail. It would be interesting to see if the District Attorney ever had a fight in highschool

  7. I am not going to mention M. T’s name in full but as I read some of this fool’s posting I realize even more how ignorant this person is. I look at the people that they mentioned as the African Americans who would not so call complained and I wonder if this individual has read things about these people such as thier books and interviews. If that was the case the aforementioned statement would not have been made.

Second many of the people I was with owned thier own businesses like myself. I have never received government checks except for when I voluntered my service to the United States of America, which more citizens should do.

Third for those who did not own their own businesses they were either students or homemakers from established homes.

Fourth for those who had jobs they simply ask for a day off. I guess you may not realize slavery is over and people can utilize thier days off for whatever purpose they choose.

Fifth the rest were retired or were not old enough to work. So please stop showing your ignorance and lumping people together. Get educated with book knowledge and street knowlege. Book knowledge with out common sense just makes a smart fool.

  8. NATIVE SON,
First off, i would like to applaud any attempt at peaceful protest,it is our right as americans.Second, i would like to voice my disgust with any attempt at judging a person based on race, religion, etc. That being said I WOULD LIKE TO INVITE “NATIVE SON” TO ANSWER OR CONSIDER A FEW QUESTIONS THIS INCIDENT BRINGS UP.

#1 What punishment,if any, would u suggest 6 WHITE young men beating up 1 african american should get?I beleive 6 on one is called a LYNCH down south
#2 Should any future defendant be exonerated due to the fact that they were instigated, regardless of their own actions?
#3 Do u feel that beating up a person because they offended you is the proper behavior you want future children to follow?
#4 Have you ever hear of a man named DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.?
He taught us all to turn the other cheek to violence, and that violence begets violence. The white students are lower than scum for what they did. but if you think the correct way to handle it is to have 6 people beat up one of the offendors than i fear for you children. i have been on probation myself, like one of the jena 6. and while i was i realized i was one step from jail. there have been people in my life that said and did things that made me want to beat them to death, but if you lower yourself to the level of your enemy you are destined to fail because idiots are better at being dumb than you. i have mad the wrong choice before, and i paid for it with my freedom. PEOPLE ARE NOT FREE TO GET EVEN WITH WHO THEY PLEASE HOW THEY PLEASE.by defending the Jena 6 you are teaching your children the following:
    1- VIOLENCE IS OK
2- YOU ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS
3- TWO WRONGS MAKE A RIGHT
4- THE COMMUNITY RALLIES BEHIND CRIMINALS
5- DONT BE THE BIGGER MAN, BREAK THE LAW, THAT WILL SOLVE THE PROBLEM

FREE THE JENA SIX? DR. KING MUST BE ROLLING IN HIS GRAVE, WATCHING HIS CHILDREN(LITERALLY)DEFEND PEOPLE WHO THREW HIS TEACHINGS TO THE WIND AND SOLVED THEIR PROBLEMS BY LYNCHING SOMEONE.

BETWEEN RAP LYRICS AND YOUR OWN ACTIONS HOW CAN A YOUNG INTELLIGENT BLACK CHILD LEARN THE VALUES HE NEEDS TO BE SUCCESSFULL WHEN HIS PEERS GET MORE ATTENTION FOR GOING TO JAIL THAN HE WILL GETTING A COLLEGE DEGREE.

“NATIVE SON” I HOPE YOU READ THIS AND REPLY, I THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME IN ADVANCE, AMERICA IS ALL ABOUT FREE FLOW OF IDEAS AND OPINIONS. WERE ALL AMERICAN LETS START ACTING LIKE IT.

  9. ANTONY RODRIGUEZ:

#1: I do not approve of violence. I think that any students involved in the fight should have been suspended and if any charges were filed (which I don’t think any should have been charged) they should have been charge as juveniles. There are group fights in schools across this country and I have never heard of kids being charged with 2 degree attempted murder.

Further more, there was so much racial tension between certain groups of students at the school and officials brushed the racial events (hanging of nooses and an array of other things that took place through out the year) as childhood pranks, that something had to give. Once again I am not advocating violence, but I blame the school system and the adults in that community for not assisting in resolving racial between youth in that town.

In addition, the student who was attacked was not hurt as badly as people are saying because the same day he was attacked, he was seen at a party that night.

    #2: refer to response #1

    #3: refer to response #1

#4: Martin Luther King was for non violence and I agree with him. He also realized that equality would not come easy and that he would not see it during his lifetime. He most famous speech, according to main stream America, is King’s ‘I have a Dream’

This country always throws King and this speech in black people’s face when we address racial issues but misunderstood what he was trying to say. Dr. King said I HAVE a dream, not I HAD a dream and it came true. He knew that the attitudes of some white people, especially those in power would not change. That is why he said Have a dream. The legal system is not blind like they claim it should be in this Country. Lady Justice’s blind fold is not covering both eyes like it supposed to be.

No one is talking about the other incidents that happened between white and black youth in that town, such as the black kid getting hit over the head with a bottle when he went to an all white party. No one is talking about the white kids in Jena who pulled a shot gun out on a group of black kids; the black kids snatched the gun from him notified police of the incident and then they (not the white kids) were arrested for stealing the gun. These were the racial behaviors that took place before the hanging of the nooses which the town keeps claiming was a childish prank.

So once again, I do not approve of violence. Bell and anyone who was involved in the fight should be suspended, and the whole town, black and white need to sit down and work this out.

But as long as you have terror groups like the KKK, and some white people who underestimate, undervalue and marginalize the history and struggles of people of color in this country including believing that hanging nooses is a childish prank, the racial divide in this country will not get any better and Dr. King’s dream will never come true.

And black people are using this incident in Jena to teach their kids that they can’t solve things by using violence, but they also can not allow injustice to take place. No black person that I know approved of violence, and we are not supporting the Jena 6 because they beat up a white kid. we are saying that this incident is bigger than the fight that took place.

Like I stated in a previous post; I find it interesting how some people in this country keep saying that we are rallying behind criminals; but when white kids get in trouble as youth, they are coined as troubled juveniles who need professional help and are given chance after chance to redeem themselves.

I am not saying that Bell is perfect; yes Bell has a juvenile record. But charging children who were invovled in a fight which may have been sparked by racial tension that was not properly handeled by the school district and community with 2nd degree attempted muder and now 2nd degree battery is not justice.
