Jim Brown Sounds off on Tilghman Comment

I could not agree more with Jim Brown .  Tiger Woods should have spoke against the comments his “friend” Kelly Tilghman made about lynching him in an alley.

Tiger has played it safe when it comes to the race issue and still some people in main stream America reminded him that he can not play down the color of his skin.  From the history of golf being racist to the infamous “collard greens” comment at the Masters.  America has always reminded Tiger Woods that he is black….

Tiger is attempting to be color blind, but sometimes you have to take a stand.  He might not have been offended by the comments Tilghman made, but that doesn’t mean that they were no racially offensive.

I have read many blog post where people think that black people are too sensitive, or need to get over the “race issue”.  They think this way because they have been culturally conditioned to underestimate, undervalue and marginalize black people, and sometimes black people also fall victim to this conditioning and marginalized themselves.  A perfect example of this is what Tiger did not say about the the Tilghman comments.  He contends that he was not offended.

If Tiger was Jewish, and if Tilghman would have suggested that they throw Tiger in a gas chamber, we would not be having this discussion and Tilghman would have been out of a job, because the Jewish community will not allow anyone regardless of who they are to underestimate or down play their people and their history no matter what main stream America thinks.  When will black people get to that point?

Perhaps Tiger’s lack of response indicates that he was raised not to allow anyone else to underestimate, undervalue, undervalue and marginalize himself and therefore–in addition to his overwhelming success as a human being–he had neither a basis nor a reason to respond.

Whose family has a brighter future–the Woods’ or the Tilghmans’?

Plus, just because someone else is ignorant enough to play the race card doesn’t mean that the direct or indirect target of that ignorance has to play the same card in return.

  2. Afripino: Glad you stopped by man. long time no talk to. I agree that not letting things that people say get to you. But there is nothing wrong in calling people out when they say things that my be offensive. He might not have been offended by the comments because he knows her, but they were racially insensative.

  3. Native Son: I’m glad you’re back in action. I think that guys like Tiger and other super-athletes have the ability to hyper-focus on what is important to them and screen out most stuff that isn’t important to their primary existence: winning in their chosen field. Suffice to say that Tiger is focused on winning golf tournaments and not swatting flies like Ms. Tilghman. I’m confident that the effects of his status as a role model and champion significantly outweigh her comments.

    Peace and blessings, bro.

  4. PLAY THE RACE CARD BROWN the loser. It was a joke and everyone with a brain knows the comment by Kelly was not meant to be racist. It’s the jerks like Brown and Sharpton and the gutless media that are racists.Do you think the public is that stupid?Get in the real world.
I have some black friends that are sick of these Al Sharptons. They didn’t hire these people to be their spokesperson.

  5. Tennis:

You don’t understand. But you are an example of most of main stream America.

  6. Native Son, Don’t even waste your time on the one that calls himself “Tennis.”
